STORYLINE

New video footage has emerged of the captain of the sunken South Korean ferry receiving medical treatment shortly after he reached shore following the capsizing of his ship.

The pictures show Lee Joon-seok lying on the floor of a hospital facility at Paengmok Port.

A nurse appears to be checking his blood pressure, and shortly afterwards he is seen getting up and shuffling past the camera.

The footage is consistent with independent AP reporting and was checked by regional experts against known locations and events.

Lee was one of the first people to escape the vessel when it sunk last Wednesday.

He has since been arrested on five charges including negligence of duty and abandoning people in need.

Sixty-one bodies have been recovered so far, and about 240 people are still missing.

The ferry sank with 476 people on board, many of them students from a single high school.
