STORYLINE

Sirens warning of incoming rockets rang out over Ashkelon on Saturday night, as two bright flashes in the sky were followed by two loud explosions.

The explosions in Ashkelon were heard at around 2145 local time (1945 GMT).

AP Television was not able to verify what was the source of the two flashes and explosions.

Hamas said it fired five rockets at Israel late on Saturday after rejecting Israel's offer to extend a 12-hour humanitarian cease-fire, by four hours, casting new doubt on international efforts to broker an end to 19 days of fighting.

The Israeli military said three rockets fell in southern Israel.
