Extramarital affairs may be taboo in America, but in places that implement Islamic law, they’re illegal.

In the Aceh providence of Indonesia -- which uses sharia, the Islamic legal code -- a 25-year-old widow said she was gang-raped by eight men who allegedly found her having an extramarital affair with a married man, according to the Associated Press. She said the men beat the married man, threw sewage on them both and turned them in to police.

The men, if convicted under the criminal code, could serve up to 15 years in jail. The woman and married man may be publicly caned if found guilty.

Three of the rapists – including a 13-year-old boy – have been arrested.
