Impact player

Playing in place of injured starter Robert Griffin III, quarterback Kirk Cousins shook off a rough start to lead the Redskins to a 38-21 victory in Cleveland. Cousins finished 26-for-37 for 329 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Under the radar

Wide receiver Santana Moss has had to deal with a reduced role this season. But the veteran came up big against the Browns with five receptions for 57 yards, including two key catches during a third-quarter scoring drive.

Did you notice ...

Another big play from linebacker Rob Jackson? Yes, Cleveland quarterback Brandon Weeden missed him dropping into coverage. But Jackson was in the right place for an interception on the opening drive of the third quarter with his team down 14-10.

From the sidelines

Pat Shurmur's Browns are a patient defensive bunch. That was made easier in the absence of Griffin III, and they held Washington to 122 rushing yards -- though three runs went for short touchdowns.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan maintained a balanced approach even with Cousins starting. Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson was one of eight players to catch a pass -- and both of his went for touchdowns.
