ASHBURN -- Redskins linebacker London Fletcher sat out practice on Tuesday and his status for Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys remains in doubt.

But the Redskins would be surprised if he doesn't play.

"You kind of figure that he's going to be there," Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said. "We'll see. This is a tough one because of the short week, but if anyone will do it, it will be him."

Fletcher has played in 234 consecutive games, but in recent weeks he has dealt with injuries that put that streak in jeopardy, including the left ankle sprain that he suffered in Sunday's 31-6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Fletcher hurt his ankle in the first quarter but did return.

Earlier he missed practices prior to a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers because of a hamstring injury and neurological issues related to his balance. But he eventually participated in that contest anyway. Fletcher wore a protective boot on Monday.

"Keep getting as much treatment as possible," Fletcher said on Tuesday at Redskins Park. "Got a lot of treatment today, again tomorrow, even Thursday before the game and see how I feel pregame -- if I can go or not. That's pretty much how it'll go."

Fletcher noted the swelling and soreness is always worse the day after a game. He has yet to test the ankle yet, either. There is still time for that. That time isn't now if he hopes to make it through during a short week with just three days to prepare for Dallas.

"That wouldn't be smart to do," Fletcher said.

But if he can play and make it through unscathed once again, then Fletcher would have 11 days to rest and get ready for the New York Giants. That game won't be played until Monday, Dec. 3, at FedEx Field.

If Fletcher can't play, the Redskins would start veteran Lorenzo Alexander but also use rookie Keenan Robinson. Alexander is in his first full season at inside linebacker and has helped the pass rush in recent weeks. Robinson adds speed and plays well in coverage.
