Redskins left tackle Trent Williams couldn’t finish Sunday’s game vs. Cincinnati, but he at least received good news later in the day. An MRI on his right knee was negative, showing only a bruise, and coach Mike Shanahan said he’s day to day.
If Williams can’t play, then Jordan Black would again replace him as he did vs. the Bengals.
Williams injured his knee in the first half Sunday and left the game. He returned for the first series in the third quarter, only to leave afterward. Williams said he struggled to run to his right because of the injury.
Corner Cedric Griffin (hamstring) and running back Evan Royster (strained patella tendon) also are day to day. He said running back Roy Helu has turf toe, Shanahan said. Helu was limping in the locker room after the game. Shanahan said he’s still not sure of receiver Pierre Garcon’s status. Garcon has missed the past two games with a bruised right foot.
“I’m hoping when he gets on the Wednesday he’s getting better and ready to play,” Shanahan said.
He’s also not sure if safety Brandon Meriweather (knee) will return this week. He was originally scheduled to miss two to four weeks; he’s entering his third week.
