…Running back Roy Helu suffered a setback in his recovery from turf toe, but coach Mike Shanahan said he’s nearly 100 percent. Helu played in only three games last season because of the injury on his left foot.

Safety Reed Doughty also is dealing with the same issue, though Shanahan said the veteran is nearly 100 percent as well.

As for Helu, Shanahan knows he would help the offense because of his speed.

“Anytime you get guys that can run it helps you,” Shanahan said. “You’re always looking for a guy that has the ability to make plays.”

…Linebacker London Fletcher, who underwent elbow and ankle surgery in late winter, already has returned to the weight room. Shanahan said the elbow surgery relieved a “lot of tension”.

…Shanahan said linebacker Brian Orakpo is fully recovered from his torn triceps last September. Meanwhile, linebacker Keenan Robinson, who suffered the same injury in November, should be ready for organized team activities next month.

…The Redskins will get a better idea of how far along tight end Fred Davis is in his recovery from a torn Achilles’ tendon, suffered in October. Defensive end Adam Carriker, who had a setback earlier this offseason in his recovery from a quadriceps tear, is around 70 or 80 percent, Shanahan said.

“He’s making strides,” Shanahan said. “It’s much better than it was a month ago so we’re going to let the due process take care of itself and I’ll update you the more I know.”

…Shanahan said he doesn’t know when he’ll hear any news about suspended safety Tanard Jackson. He was suspended indefinitely on Aug. 31, 2012 and he can’t apply for reinstatement for one year.
