The Redskins can’t be too active in pursuing other team’s free agents, but they’re trying to hold onto their own. They added punter Sav Rocca to the list of players they’re keeping around. Rocca agreed to a two-year deal, according to a team source.
Rocca, 39, averaged 43.9 yards per punt this past season with 22 punts inside the 20-yard line. He averaged 43.1 yards in 2011, his first with Washington. Rocca underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee after the 2012 season.
Other than retaining Rocca, the Redskins have been quiet on the first day of free agency. Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander reportedly has interest from Arizona, San Francisco and Pittsburgh.
Also, free agent corner Greg Toler signed with Indianapolis. The Redskins had expressed interest in him before free agency started.
The Redskins also restructured receiver Santana Moss’ contract this morning, freeing $2 million on the cap. The Redskins were $3 million under the cap before free agency started.
