For couples split down the political aisle, living in D.C. can't be easy.
Fortunately, local author and relationship coach Jess McCann, who signed copies of her new book, "Was It Something I Said?: The Answer to All of Your Dating Dilemmas" at the Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill Tuesday, had some helpful advice.
"My husband and I have political differences," McCann said. "I think that as long as you don't attach your ego to your political views to the point where you get personally offended, you can have a conversation about it," she said.
McCann's roster of clients feel so confident in her ability to dish out advice that they text and call her on dates. Her second book is based on the clandestine advice she gave to them, usually in the early days of a relationship.
"They get close enough to you that if they're in a real big bind, they can call you from the bathroom," McCann said. A former sales associate, McCann's first book, "You Lost Him at Hello," showed readers the link between sales techniques and finding a partner.
McCann said she doesn't know the secret to the Obamas famously strong marriage, but McCann suggests speaking about what you're grateful for every day. "I think that for any couple that is really unified and strong, the number one thing is living in a state of gratitude," McCann said.
