After Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., heard reports about park officials threatening to arrest elderly veterans visiting the World War II memorial, he went down to the monument site to see it for himself.

"I'm just outraged that our veterans aren't being treated better," he said. "Some of them, this will be the last chance of a lifetime to visit the World War II memorial."

Lamborn said he met a 97-year-old World War II vet in a wheelchair at the park, which reminded him of his own father, also a World War II veteran, who died last year without visiting the memorial.

He blamed President Obama for barricading the park and blocking veterans from visiting the memorial.

"Tear down the barricades, send some police to make sure the vandals don't take something." he said, adding that "everybody" should be allowed to visit the open air memorial.

"It's not that big of a job to just stand there and make sure a vandal isn't spraying spray-paint all over the place," Lamborn added.
