GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A miniature replica of the doomed fishing vessel Andrea Gail, made famous in the book and movie The Perfect Storm, is now on display in a Gloucester museum.

The model at the Cape Ann Museum was built at 30-to-1 scale by Paul Gran, an American who's lived in Israel for the last 30 years.

Gran is a hobbyist who summers in Rockport and made the model because he views the vessel as important and newsworthy.

The Gloucester-based ship and its six crewmen were lost in a 1991 storm.

Gran tells the Gloucester Times (http://bit.ly/Q8yWIb) he relied largely on photos, after the Florida shipyard where the vessel was built didn't respond to his request for information. The museum agreed to display it after a local expert confirmed it was a good replica.
