PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island has selected a consultant to study the state's lackluster economy and recommend ways to boost it.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) said Monday that a firm called Fourth Economy was selected to analyze the state's business climate, compare the state to the rest of the region and recommend actions that could improve the state's standing.

Chafee, an independent, says it's another step in his efforts to jumpstart the economy and retool economic development efforts.

Fourth Economy is expected to report its findings and recommendations next month.
