LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — A Richmond man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying of his mother-in-law in Lynchburg.
Media outlets report that a Lynchburg Circuit Court jury found 50-year-old Scott Crissman Miles guilty Wednesday evening following more than two hours of deliberation.
The sentencing phase of the trial is scheduled to begin Thursday.
Prosecutors say Miles fatally beat 86-year-old Lynda Yeatts Slocum in her Lynchburg home on Dec. 19, 2012. Police found her body in a chair covered with a blanket and a 25-pound magazine rack.
