At the Republican National Committee, officials are already celebrating a "fantastic December" of fundraising.
"We have had a historically amazing December, so there is absolutely no way — unless literally they robbed a lot of banks — that they beat us," an RNC official told the Washington Examiner, referring to the Democratic National Committee.
Calling it an "unprecedented" amount of money for a political party out of power, the RNC official explained that it would allow them to invest heavily in building their ground game ahead of the 2014 elections.
He credited the huge boost to the efforts of RNC chairman Reince Priebus and grassroots fundraising efforts.
"I have never been around a politician — including Newt [Gingrich] — who raises money like Reince does," he said.
