Sandy prompts Obama to scrap Wisconsin stop

BROOKFIELD, Wis. - President Obama canceled a campaign stop in Wisconsin because of Hurricane Sandy.

The White House said early Monday that the president's trip to Green Bay, in the competitive Fox Valley region of the state, is being scrapped "so that he can stay in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday and closely monitor the impact of and response to Hurricane Sandy."

Obama was set to visit the day after Republican Mitt Romney's appearance in a Milwaukee suburb. Vice President Joe Biden traveled to Wisconsin last week. Obama last visited the state on Oct. 4.

Although Obama won Wisconsin by 14 percentage points in 2008, recent polls show Romney within striking distance of being the first Republican presidential nominee to win the state since 1984.
