Scholarships headed to Va. public housing students

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A program that recognizes young scholars in Richmond's public housing projects is awarding scholarships to 12 college-bound students.

The scholarships will be awarded Wednesday by commissioners of the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

The "Tomorrow's Promise Scholarship" program was established in 1995. It provides assistance to high school seniors who live in the city's public housing and are about to embark for college.

The annual scholarships go to students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to community service.
