Bill Nye, an educator who gained fame in the 1990s as the "Science Guy" on children's television, will tackle a more adult audience Sunday when he debates Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., on the issue of climate change on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Blackburn, a conservative Tennessee Republican and vice chairwoman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has been skeptical about scientific research showing that human activities have altered the world's climate patterns at an alarming and unnatural rate.

Blackburn also has accused liberals of overemphasizing climate change at the expense of other issues.

Nye, a mechanical engineer by trade, will argue the counter point.

Nye earlier this month publicly debated creationist Ken Ham, who says the Earth is only 6,000 years old and that man once lived alongside dinosaurs.
