Scoop: No probation problem on horizon for Sheen

Once again, Charlie Sheen seems to have skirted punishment following some outrageous antics.

After being discharged from the hospital — where police escorted him after he trashed a hotel room — the actor is set to return to work on “Two and a Half Men” next week. And though he is days away from completing his probation term in Colorado, where he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence against then-wife Brooke Mueller on Christmas Day, he is not likely to have his probation revoked.

According to TMZ, the district attorney in Pitkin County, Colo., has “no interest” in waging a probation revocation case against Charlie, viewing it as a “waste of taxpayers’ money.”

And that’s not the only way Charlie was lucky to get off easy. Though his rep claims he had an allergic reaction to medication, TMZ sources said it was a drinking binge — and friends have feared for his life of late in light of his relapse into substance abuse. A TMZ source said the actor has been “a tortured soul for months.”

Before the incident at NYC’s Plaza Hotel, the actor reportedly dined with friends — and escorts, including the one he was found with in the hotel room — at an upscale restaurant nearby.

“Charlie was rowdy from the beginning, like he had been drinking prior,” a source told Life&Style magazine.

“Charlie was stumbling and loud and being very frisky and touchy-feely,” the onlooker said. “Charlie and his date excused themselves to the bathroom together, for a long time. You don’t have to be an investigator to know what was going on in that bathroom.”

But Charlie himself brushed off the incident, telling Radar Online via text message, “I’m fine. The story is totally overblown and overplayed as far as the reality of the scenario.” Really? OK.

Blake Breakup

Another young Hollywood couple bites the dust.

After a remarkable three-year run, “Gossip Girl” co-stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley have gone their separate ways, a rep told Us magazine.

The pair quietly broke up in the middle of September, but “kept this news to themselves for awhile,” an insider said.

“They’re professionals,” the source said. “They’re still good friends and hang out on the set.”

We’re bummed by this news — they seemed like a genuine, down-to-earth couple. Then again, they’re both 23, so it’s a bit soon to settle down. Maybe they will reconnect someday.

Weekend Fun

Although they spent a seemingly romantic weekend together in NYC, don’t expect Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal to become the next hot celebrity couple, sources told People magazine.

“Taylor is very serious about her career,” a source close to the country singer said. “For her, it’s all about the career right now. She’s not really interested in getting heavily involved with anyone.”

Despite being spotted sharing such cozy couple activities as apple picking and brunch, they are evidently keeping it casual.

“They’re cute together,” a Jake insider said. “But I don’t think there’s anything to it. Everyone’s talking about it. They hung out. But that’s it. I don’t think they’re a couple.”

“If she does have a serious relationship, it’s probably going to be with someone who’s not in the industry or someone who’s not a household name,” the first source said. “With Jake, she probably figures, ‘Why not be seen together and keep everyone guessing?’”

Well, it worked!
