Students being dismissed from Lake Shore Elementary School in Pasadena on Thursday were shuffled back into school while police chased a burglary suspect nearby.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Anne Arundel County officers were notified of an attempted burglary on the 8400 block of Alvin Road, about a half-mile from the elementary school. Dismissal was pushed back as a precaution, but after an unsuccessful search for the suspect, school officials began to allow students to leave.

That's when officers near the back of the school spotted the suspect, prompting teachers to bring students back inside while multiple officers, a police K-9 unit and a helicopter searched for the suspect, according to Anne Arundel County police.

Students were safely released a short time later, when officers determined the suspect was far enough away.

Jason Thomas Donaldson, 27, was then arrested shortly before 7 p.m. and will be charged with burglary-related offenses, police said.
