Manny Acta may be a good manager, but after being fired by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday he may not get another chance.
Acta hasn't put himself in the best situations to succeed.
In 2007, he took over a Washington Nationals team that was coming off a 71-91 year. His starting rotation included Matt Chico, Mike Bacsik and Jason Bergmann. His best hitters other than Ryan Zimmerman were Austin Kearns and Dmitri Young. Even Casey Stengel wouldn't have been able to lead that squad to a .500 record.
Acta went 73-89, lost 102 games the following year and started 2009 with a 26-61 record before being fired by Washington.
His next stop? Taking over an Indians squad that lost 97 games.
Cleveland's rotation in 2010 featured Roberto Hernandez, Justin Masterson and Mitch Talbot. He again had Kearns at his disposal, and his best bat was Shin-Soo Choo.
It's no surprise Acta has a .418 career winning percentage -- among the worst of all time.
If he ever gets another job offer, maybe he should evaluate the roster before signing that contract.
