Sen. Scott Brown R-Mass. posted a note on Facebook this afternoon – notifying his constituents that President Obama was reaching out to Senate Republicans with a deal to solve the fiscal cliff dilemma before the end of the year. “Heading back to DC,” he wrote. “Just learned that the Pres. reached out to Senate GOP leadership with a proposal. It is the first such proposal to be put forth.”

Brown added that he hoped that it was “serious.”

Update: CNBC’s John Harwood reports on Twitter that a Senior White House official insists the President will not be sending a proposal to Capitol Hill.

Update II: Joe Weisenthal posts an excellent graph showing how these two social media events caused some bumps on Wall Street this afternoon.
