ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A sentencing hearing is underway in Roanoke County for a man convicted of capital murder in the 2010 slaying of a woman.

Media outlets report that the multiday hearing for Carey Shane Padgett began Monday in Roanoke County Circuit Court. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Padgett had pleaded guilty in October to capital murder, abduction and robbery. He was arrested in July 2010 after he told police he smoked marijuana with Cara Marie Holley in a field, and then beat her with a tire iron and buried her body in Franklin County.
