WASHINGTON (AP) — A sentencing hearing has been postponed for a former campaign aide to District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray.
Online court records show Howard Brooks is now scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 10. The hearing had previously been set for Sept. 24.
Brooks pleaded guilty in May to lying to federal authorities about under-the-table payments made to a minor candidate in the 2010 mayoral race. Two other Gray campaign aides have also pleaded guilty, including one who admitted conspiring with a businessman to spend $650,000 in illicit funds to help Gray get elected over then-incumbent Adrian Fenty.
The campaign remains the subject of a long-running federal investigation. Gray's lawyer said Thursday that he's being treated unfairly by the media and by elected officials who have called for his resignation.
