A Silver Spring man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for embezzling a half-million dollars from his employer, Air India.

Sanjay Gupta, 51, worked as an secretary in a three-person office on K Street in downtown Washington. Prosecutors said Gupta funneled money intended for Air India and its vendors into his own bank account.

Between April 2007 and March 2010, Gupta's embezzlement of Air India monies totaled approximately $536,000. He resigned in 2010.
