WASHINGTON (AP) — Guests at a large Washington hotel were forced to evacuate their rooms overnight and wait in ballrooms and lobbies due to a series of small fires.
Guests say they were told to leave their rooms at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel about 1 a.m. Saturday during the annual conference of the American Political Science Association.
Guests say they had to leave the building and then were allowed to wait in lobbies. They were allowed to return to their rooms after 3 a.m. and then had to evacuate again when fire alarms sounded.
Marriott spokesman Mark Indre says the fires were primarily in stairwells and guests were relocated as a precaution.
D.C. fire department spokesman Tim Wilson says the cause of the fires is under investigation. There were no injuries.
