SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (BOO'-tah-juhj) is taking an extra step to promote the arts in the northern Indiana city: He'll perform a piano solo Saturday with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra.

Buttigieg told supporters Monday that he'll perform "Rhapsody in Blue" as part of a program entitled "A Valentine from Gershwin" at South Bend's Morris Civic Auditorium.

Buttigieg says he's "always on the lookout for ways to draw attention to the importance of the arts in our community, and this is a chance to do that while reviving a long-lost skill."

Buttigieg ran unsuccessfully for state treasurer in 2010.
