Southeast shooting leaves one D.C. man dead

A D.C. man died at a local hospital Saturday night after being shot on the District's Southeast side.

At 9:20 p.m. Saturday, police officers working in the area responded to sounds of gunshots on the 4300 block of Fourth Street SE. After arriving on the scene, officers saw a man get in a vehicle and drive off. Several minutes later, the man, unconscious, was dropped off at a local hospital by an unknown driver.

Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim is identified as 27-year-old Marc Griffith, of D.C. Police did not provide any information on a suspect and are asking the community for information pertaining to the shooting.

Gaithersburg man killed after driving truck into tree

A 49-year-old Gaithersburg man died early Sunday morning when he drove off the road and struck a tree in his hometown.

Police have identified the deceased as Jose Antonio Ayala, of Fullview Court in Gaithersburg.

About 1 a.m., an off-duty employee of the police department called authorities to report a gray pickup truck driving erratically. Police enacted a lookout for the vehicle, and an officer spotted the truck near Route 108 and Hawkins Creamery Road.

Before the police officer could stop the driver, the vehicle veered off the eastbound lane of Route 108, hitting a tree. Ayala died at the scene.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is seeking help to determine what may have caused the accident. Ayala's family told police he was diabetic and insulin-dependent. He was last seen at 6 p.m. Saturday when he left his home to get groceries.

Short woman uses shoe to assault male

A man called police early Sunday morning complaining that a woman assaulted him with a shoe at a nightclub in the NoMa neighborhood.

The complainant reported a physical altercation with a woman about 2 a.m. at Ibiza DC Nightclub at 1222 First St. NE near the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro station. The man told police that during the altercation the woman hit him in the head with her shoe.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-2 black female weighing about 130 pounds.
