The father of one of the Dallas police officers slain by a sniper in July is suing the Black Lives Matter movement for $550 million in damages.
Enrique Zamarripa filed the federal lawsuit in the Northern District of Texas on Monday, according to the Fort-Worth Star Telegram.
His son, Patrick Zamarripa, was killed by a gunman who ambushed Dallas police officers who were guarding a Black Lives Matter protest on July 7.
“While defendant Black Lives Matter claims to combat anti-black racism,” the 43-page lawsuit reads, “the movement has in fact incited and committed further violence, severe bodily injury and death against police officers of all races and ethnicities, Jews and Caucasians. Defendant Black Lives Matter is in fact a violent and revolutionary criminal gang.”
Brent Thompson, Michael Krol, Michael Smith and Lorne Ahrens were also killed during the protest by a sniper, Micah Johnson.
The lawsuit includes a long list of activist groups that helped organize the July 7 protest: Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam; Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network; Black Lives Matter organizers Rashad Turner, Opal Tometi, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, Deray McKesson and Johnetta Elzie; Malik Zulu Shabazz, leader of the New Black Panthers Party; and George Soros, a supporter of Black Lives Matter.
According to Enrique Zamarripa, the Dallas shooter was “acting as an agent of and at and under the direction of” the defendants named in the lawsuit.
