ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) — Former "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks is set to attend a screening of her new movie, "Sparkle," in the Detroit area.
Sparks is to walk the red carpet and host the screening Sunday at a theater in Royal Oak.
She stars alongside the late Whitney Houston in "Sparkle," which already had finished filming in Detroit when Houston died in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Feb. 11 at age 48.
The remake of the 1976 movie stars Houston as the mother of three girls who form a singing group and struggle with fame and drug addiction.
Houston served as executive producer of the movie. It was seen as a comeback vehicle for the superstar, whose career suffered in recent years as she battled drug and alcohol abuse.
"Sparkle" debuts Aug. 17.
