"The White House is treating the dinner details as state secrets."

-- A note to reporters from Wednesday night's White House pool report discussing President Obama's dinner at the Jefferson Hotel with Republican senators. Eventually the pool reporter, Susan Crabtree, of the Washington Times, did get a handful of details -- including the fact that the president paid for the meal out of his own pocket and that 12 GOP senators attended, including one woman, Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.
