When it comes to leading "Redskins Nation," no one does it better than Larry Michael. The host of the show, seen Monday through Friday on Comcast SportsNet, is happy the lockout is over and that things are going full force at Redskins Park.
I spoke to the voice of the team's radio network about all things Redskins.
How has it been doing "Redskins Nation" with the players back in camp?
"We are blessed to have viewers who care enough about the Redskins that we can do a show five nights a week, 52 weeks a year and it never gets old. Viewers want to know everything they can about the players on the team, the coaches and the cheerleaders. They want to know what is going on with former Redskins. Right now, however, our goal is to inform and educate the viewers on all the new players we have in camp, and I can assure that is a full-time job for all of us."
When you talk to the fans, what are they saying to you?
"Redskins fans are the best and most passionate fans in football, and they want to see a winner, but they know it takes time. I think they are very excited about this year's team, but they seem to be patient knowing that the Redskins have a plan. They see how GM Bruce Allen and coach Mike Shanahan have been able to make this team better, younger and deeper in one year in large part due to the fact there were 500 free agents."
What is it like working on the radio network with Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff?
"It is an honor to work with two of the best men ever to play in the NFL. This is our seventh season together and the 31st year that Sonny and Sam have been together as members of the broadcast team. They make the broadcast fun with their unique perspective on all things Redskins. We have Rick 'Doc' Walker working the sidelines with us and have added a great deal to our broadcasts. I will say that it is because of Sonny and Sam that so many people turn down the TV and listen to the radio broadcast."
