STORY STAND-UP

SpeakeasyDC is showcasing some of the best true tales told live in 2012, which inevitably means hilarious stories about parking lot drama, tales about brothers, naked hippies and even someone's first time -- we kid you not. This is SpeakeasyDC's third annual Top Shelf and will feature the top eight storytellers of 2012.

SpeakeasyDC has been telling stories to the public since 1997 and is now one of the leading presenters of live storytelling performances in the nation. It hosted more than 20 shows this year. If you've never been to a performance, it's generally a mix of stand-up comedy, theater and memoir -- all of which are awkwardly funny and very, very honest.

Get your tickets for Sunday night's show at 930.com. It will be held at the 9:30 Club (815 V St. NW) at 6 p.m.

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington (6125 Montrose Road, Rockville) is blowing out 100 birthday candles in celebration of its centennial birthday, and we are all invited to celebrate at the Kickoff Birthday Party. There are plenty of fun things to do for all ages, starting as early as 9 a.m. There will be a moon bounce, bingo, a bean bag toss, a photo booth, live entertainment and even a performance by the center's children's choir, Shir Atid.

The Community Center provides social, educational, cultural and fitness programs to the D.C. community with the purpose of preserving Jewish heritage and identity. If you'd like to show your support, go to jccgw.org to get your ticket and to see the full schedule of events.
