LOCAL WEARS

Inspired by a local woman who faced breast cancer and survived, a new fashion collection is designed specifically for women who have experienced breast cancer, and is beautiful enough for all. The Alloro Collection is the brainchild of Laurel Kamen, who underwent a double mastectomy in 2011. She discovered elegant clothing was not available to women recovering from the treatment. With her friend and co-founder, Christine Irvin, they were determined to correct this fashion omission.

Beyond the punishing physical ordeal that women with breast cancer experience, the journey back can be challenging psychologically, as well. The Alloro Collection helps women move forward with fashion that addresses the changes in body contour, comfort and appearance that women undergoing treatments experience. Plus, 25 percent of profits will be given to breast cancer prevention and research.

A collection trunk show open to the public will take place Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Tabula Rasa (731 Eighth St. SE). For more information, visit allorocollection.com.

LUNCH SPECIALS

For those of you who work in Bethesda, lunchtime just got more fun and more affordable for you. One of our favorite stops along the main drag, Food, Wine & Co. (7272 Wisconsin Ave.), is offering a pretty innovative burger menu, as well as buy one, get one for $1 burger specials through the end of the month. The new menu features creative meat-and-topping combinations such as juicy lamb, crispy shishito peppers, sorghum-black pepper bacon and more.

Executive Chef Michael Harr is always experimenting with unique new burger combinations and unexpected toppings. Burgers include a USDA prime beef with smoky bleu, a harissa-topped juicy lamb burger, fresh Asian-inspired salmon burger, as well as a number of daily rotating specialty burgers.

The new burger menu is available Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. All burgers are $15 and are served with delicious, house-cut rosemary-parmesan chips.

EAT, DRINK, CHEER

Alexandrians with a love of the Washington Capitals now have a destination to root for their team -- even if they probably won't make the playoffs this year, we still love them! Drink, eat and scream for your team at CAPS!-athon at Trademark Drink and Eat (2080 Jamieson Ave., close to the King Street Metro). The spacious, group-friendly bar with six HD flat-screen TVs -- including an 80-inch screen perfect for catching all of the heart-racing glory of the Caps -- has an expansive beer selection that includes local brews such as Alexandria's own Port City Optimal Wit and DC Brau's Citizen, and boasts a cutting-edge mixology program. Plus, the comfort-food-loaded menu is mouth-wateringly good. Trademark will offer select $5 specialty appetizers, perfect for sharing.

The CAPS!-athon at Trademark will be hosted during all regular season game days throughout March and April.
