LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says it's accepting applications for grants of up to $75,000 "to enhance the competitiveness of Michigan's specialty crops."

The department said Tuesday that people can apply for the grants until April 11. The department says funds for the grants of $10,000 to $75,000 come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The state agency says grants will go to such activities as research, promotion, marketing, nutrition, trade enhancement, food safety and security, plant health programs, education, manufacturing and distribution.

It says applicants can include nonprofit organizations; businesses; local, state, and federal government entities; and universities.
