We caught up with 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen on the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet Thursday ahead of his film's win for best picture. Earlier in the day, McQueen was nominated for an Oscar for best director. Speaking to us, he reflected on what it could mean to be the first black man to take home that honor. He said he hoped it would encourage other black directors to pursue their craft. Watch as he discusses the impact of his film and its reception.
