Steve McQueen On "12 Years A Slave" Oscar Nom

Ever since 12 Years a Slave debuted at the Telluride Film Festival, whispers led to chants of a no-questions best picture nomination. But until this morning, director Steve McQueen says he wasn't sure. "It's a bit surreal," says McQueen, whose slavery film earned nine Oscar nominations on Thursday. "Just because you never know. You never know. To have that kind of confirmation is just brilliant." McQueen says he got up at 5 a.m., "and switched the television on and was just watching it.
