NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are edging higher in early trading on Wall Street after the latest reports on the economy suggested a steady recovery in the U.S.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 17 points at 15,319 shortly after the opening bell Thursday, a gain of 0.1 percent. The Dow is nearly unchanged for the week after a 106-point drop on Wednesday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up four points at 1,652, or 0.3 percent. The Nasdaq composite rose 13 points to 3,480, or 0.4 percent.

The government reported that the U.S. economy grew at an annual rate of 2.4 percent in the first three months of the year. That was slightly slower than initially estimated but better than the 0.4 percent growth in the October-December quarter.
