WHAT THE BOSS MAKES: Walgreen Co. CEO Gregory Wasson received compensation valued at about $12 million during fiscal 2012. That's down 1 percent from the previous fiscal year.

THE BREAKDOWN: Walgreen gave Wasson, 54, a $1.3 million salary, a $1.2 million performance-related bonus, stock and option awards totaling $8.9 million, and $657,304 in other compensation.

ABOUT WALGREEN: Walgreen runs more than 8,000 drugstores. It earned $2.13 billion, or $2.42 per share, in fiscal 2012, a year marked by the acquisition of a stake in Alliance Boots, a Swiss company that runs the largest drugstore chain in the United Kingdom.
