Survey: Home, long-term care costs rise in Va

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The cost of home and long-term health care is increasing in Virginia and is rising faster than national levels in some cases.

A Genworth Financial survey shows the hourly rate for homemaker services and home health aide services in Virginia is $18 and $19 respectively. Nationally, the rate for homemaker services and home health aide services are $19 and $19.75 respectively.

In Virginia, the annual cost of an assisted living facility is $47,880, an increase of about 5 percent annually over the past five years. The national average is $42,000 and has increased about 4 percent annually over the past five years.

The cost of a private nursing home room has risen 4.5 percent annually over the past five years in Virginia to $84,315. The national average is $87,600.
