DAMATURU, Nigeria (AP) — Police say security forces have killed suspected sect members during a military raid on their hideout in a besieged city in Nigeria's northeast.

Yobe state police spokesman Toyin Gbadagesin said Friday's operation left the house completely destroyed in a residential part of the city of Damaturu.

He said he could not say how many suspected members of the radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram were killed.

A staff of the Damaturu Specialist Hospital said the army brought three bullet-riddled bodies to the morgue early Saturday. He requested anonymity because he is not allowed to speak to journalists.

The raid comes after the sect has carried out a series of deadly attacks in the city.

Boko Haram's spiritual home of Maiduguri is about 130 kilometers (80 miles) east of Damaturu.
