SWEET BRIAR, Va. (AP) — Sweet Briar College President Jo Ellen Parker has taken a new job as president of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.

Parker announced her resignation on Tuesday. She says she will leave Sweet Briar in August.

Parker has served as president of the private liberal arts college for women in Virginia since July 2009.

Sweet Briar says in a news release that an interim president will be named later this spring. Later this summer, the college will announce plans to search for a permanent president.

Parker previously served as executive director of the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education and as president of the Great Lakes Colleges Association. She also was an administrator and faculty member at Bryn Mawr College, her alma mater.
