People on the roof display a banner reading 'Popular response'. Between 3,000 and 5,000 protesters march in Toulouse, France, on October 1, 2024, called by the FSU, the CGT, and the SUD unions to protest against Macron's choice of Michel Barnier (conservative) as prime minister. Unions call this protest to remind President Macron that the first coalition elected in June in the French Parliament is the New Popular Front. They also advocate for better wages. They accuse the president of ignoring election results by naming Michel Barnier (LR, Right) as prime minister. The left, led by LFI, accuses Macron of a denial of democracy and stealing the election after Macron refuses to pick the candidate of the New Popular Front (NFP) alliance that comes top in the July vote. The left and the far-left unionize in a new umbrella called 'Nouveau Front Populaire' (i.e., 'New Popular Front'). President Emmanuel Macron calls a snap legislative election in June and is defeated. The new prime minister will try to govern with a coalition of Macronist and rightists. The RN (far right) says it will judge on pieces. Similar protests take place elsewhere in France.
