Tahquamenon Falls Park offers ski, snowshoe tours

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Tahquamenon Falls State Park is continuing to offer cross-country skiing and snowshoeing by lantern light on Saturday evenings during February.

The nighttime treks cover a 1-mile trail illuminated by dozens of old-fashioned kerosene lanterns. They begin at 6 p.m. at the Upper Falls parking area near the Luce and Chippewa county line.

The ski trail is track-set for classic skiers, while snowshoers make their own trail beside the lighted loop. The program ends with a campfire and refreshments.

A daytime guided snowshoe hike is scheduled for Feb. 23, beginning at 3 p.m. Visitors also can borrow snowshoes to try the sport on their own.

The tours are free but a state "recreation passport" is required for entry to the park. The passports are available when renewing motor vehicle registration.
