Saturday: 'Record Paradise: The Musical Life of Joe Lee' at AFI
In recognition of Record Store Day, an annual celebration and show of support for independent record stores across the country, AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring will screen this documentary about a local record store owner. Maryland native Joe Lee has had a rich and varied life. This film takes a look at that life, featuring Joe's Record Paradise located on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Lee and director Michael Streissguth will be in attendance.

Saturday: That '80s Prom at BlackFinn Saloon
This weekend head back to the future for an evening of music and dancing at this '80s-themed prom. If you lived it or if you have only read about it in history books, all are welcome to revisit the '80s. Enjoy live music from hair metal cover band Hair Raid, and retro tunes from DJ Johnny Arcade. There will also be plenty of drink specials and a costume contest.

With April here and summer on the horizon, one does not need many excuses to take a day trip to Annapolis. But if you did need a reason, here's one: This weekend is the start of Annapolis Beer Week. There's plenty of events, including something called a beer run, food, music and a cruise. Participating breweries include Flying Dog, Heavy Seas, Port City, Rogue and Victory.

Saturday: 2013 Spring Gala at Strathmore
Strathmore celebrates its spring gala with a tribute to George and Ira Gershwin, headlined by Michael Feinstein. Feinstein is a popular, award-winning singer known as the Ambassador of the Great American Songbook. Feinstein released a memoir last year titled "The Gershwins and Me: A Personal History in Twelve Songs."

Sunday: Shuggie Otis at the Howard Theatre
If you know of Shuggie Otis, then you probably already have your tickets. If you don't, well, maybe you should. Songs from his 1974 album "Inspiration Information" have been sampled by the likes of Outkast and Beyonce. The album has recently been re-released along with his new album, "Wings of Love." Otis also wrote "Strawberry Letter 23," recorded by the Brothers Johnson. This evening holds promise. With Jesca Hoop.
