What are the top threats to patient safety in hospitals?

If you think it is treatment-resistant infections you'd be wrong. According to a new study by the insurer American International Group Inc. they are poor communications, inadequate teamwork and a negative culture. The conclusion is based on a phone survey of 250 U.S. hospital executives and 100 risk managers done as part of AIG's effort to help improve patient safety and lower costs.

What beauty contest was won by Forrest Gump?

The crown, of a sort, was actually won by a 4-year-old Bulldog named Huckleberry. He was named most 'Beautiful Bulldog' at the annual pageant at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The university's mascot is a bulldog. Huckleberry walked the blue runway dressed in a beige suit as the main character from the movie "Forrest Gump."

How did a Montana man reunite with his pet macaw after 5 years?

The bird was spotted by a friend of the owner who had lost the bird in a nasty divorce more than five years earlier. The friend saw "Love Love" at the Parrot & Exotic Bird Sanctuary in Butte, Mont. He had wound up there after biting a woman so hard she needed medical treatment. Macaws can live up to 50 years and 25-year-old Love Love appeared to recognized his previous owner right away. Though he had been hostile to the people at the sanctuary he was soon doing tricks and playing his favorite game of peek-a-boo with his favorite human.
