How far will a California woman go to quit smoking?

Etta Mae Lopez hit Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Campoy in the face this week in her quest to kick the habit.

The stunt got Lopez sentenced to 63 days in jail, where smoking is not allowed.

Lopez spotted Campoy in his uniform as he was leaving the county's main jail at the end of his shift.

"She waited all day for a deputy to come out because she knew if she assaulted a deputy she would go to jail and be inside long enough to quit her smoking habit," Campoy told The Sacramento Bee.

How tall is One World Trade Center?

1,776 feet.

On Friday, construction crews were able to place the last part of the spire at the top of the building, helping it to reach its final height and officially become the tallest building in North America.

The height is symbolic, a reference to the year of the United States' founding.

The building sits at the northwest corner of the former site of the twin towers that were destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Which reality TV star is costing Thailand $1 million a year?

That would be Thailand's celebrity panda Lin Ping.

Lin Ping was born in Thailand nearly four years ago to two pandas on loan from China. For nearly three years, she was the star of a reality show broadcast live from Thailand's Chiang Mai Zoo.

Now that the panda is about to turn 4, it is time for her to return to China to find a mate. Her departure is planned for October.

However, Lin Ping will return to Thailand with her male mate at a still to-be-determined date. Under an agreement announced Friday, she will be allowed to stay in Thailand for up to 15 years at a price of $1 million per year.
