Baby, is it cold outside?
For the first time this season, the temperature at Washington Dulles International Airport fell below freezing early Saturday morning. The temperature was recorded at 30 degrees Fahrenheit, equaling a record set in 1988 for Oct. 13. The normal low temperature for that day is 15 degrees higher, the Associated Press reported. High temperatures for this week are expected to hover in the upper 60s and low 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
Did "Fearless Felix" break the sound barrier?
Daredevil Felix Baumgarten set the world record for the highest skydive Sunday afternoon, jumping from a balloon and capsule 24 miles in the air -- the edge of space. The jump was broadcast live on YouTube and had more than 7 million viewers. Baumgarten landed in Roswell, N.M., after a descent that lasted more than nine minutes, half of it in free fall. It wasn't immediately clear whether the extreme athlete broke the sound barrier, which was one of the goals of the mission.
Who is Malala Yousafzai?
Tens of thousands of Pakistanis rallied Sunday in support of Yousafzai, the 14-year-old girl who was shot Oct. 9 by a Taliban operative for speaking in support of women's education. It was the biggest display of support so far for Yousafzai. Prior to Sunday most protests denouncing the attack on her were small, drawing only hundreds of people -- insignificant next to protests against U.S. drone strikes or blasphemy. Doctors said Saturday Yousafzai's condition is improving and that she was able to move all four limbs.
