What was the most-tweeted moment of the 2012 campaign?

In an election in which social media came into its own, a photograph of Barack and Michelle Obama hugging with the caption "four more years" was tweeted by the campaign just after midnight on election night and quickly became the most retweeted Twitter post ever. The photo was retweeted a record 226,000 times in the first 20 minutes alone. When it was uploaded to Facebook, the image set a record for most "likes."

How much did the 2012 campaign cost?

This year's presidential and congressional races are likely to cost a record $6 billion, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. President Obama and Republican Mitt Romney each raised about $1 billion. But the biggest spenders, doling out about $3.8 billion, were the so-called super-PACs, outside groups allowed for the first time to spend unlimited cash. The 2008 election cost $5.4 billion.

Are states legalizing marijuana?

Medical marijuana is available in 18 states and the District, but Colorado and Washington state on Tuesday became the first states to make recreational pot use legal. Oregon also voted to decriminalize pot, but the measure failed. "Federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug, so don't break out the Cheetos or Goldfish too quickly," Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper warned. Ballot initiatives to legalize pot have been around since 1972 but never passed until now.
