OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Online brokerage TD Ameritrade handled an average of 501,000 trades a day in February, marking the first time that monthly figure has topped a half million.
The Omaha, Neb., based company said Tuesday that it handled 30 percent more trades in February than it did a year earlier.
CEO Fred Tomczyk says investors remain engaged and bullish about the market.
Ameritrade held $611.6 billion in total client assets at the end of February. That was 22 percent higher than the previous year.
The statistics hint at investors' overall mood. And the figures provide clues about Ameritrade's performance because the firm makes money from trading commissions and from asset-based fees it charges.
