A national Tea Party group criticized former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor for taking a job on Wall Street.

Kevin Broughton, spokesman for the Tea Party Patriots political action committee, Citizens Fund, took a jab at Cantor, who lost a Republican primary in June, for his new job at New York investment bank Moelis & Company.

“After Dave Brat’s upset victory in June, many analysts accused Eric Cantor of paying more attention to Wall Street than to the people of Virginia’s 7th District,” Broughton said. “He certainly didn’t waste any time validating that theory.”

Cantor’s Wall Street ties were the subject of criticism among Tea Party lawmakers in the House, who complained he was working more on behalf of banks and big business than for ordinary constituents.

Tea Party Patriots did not donate to Brat’s campaign to defeat Cantor in Virginia’s 7th District but the PAC has since given his general election campaign more than $13,000.
